The luck behind every cast
Warning
Rod and Reef hasn’t been released yet, and videos or GIFs of this system can’t be shown until it launches.
Every time you cast in Rod and Reef, the game decides how rare the fish is, what species it is, whether it shines, whether it’s a lunar variant and how much it weighs. Lots of things change those odds, and all of them are designed so that upgrading your gear is always worth it.
What affects it
- Your rod decides what can bite. A basic rod won’t land epic or giant fish no matter how lucky you are.
- Your bait decides how often the good ones bite, and it also raises the best your rod can land by one step.
- Fishing near your Roblox friends gives you extra luck, with up to four friends counting.
- The boat you fish from adds luck too, and some daily rewards multiply it for a while.
- Shiny and glowing mutations depend on your rod, and lunar variants only show up at night on the game’s clock.
- If one of your quests asks for a fish, the game helps a little to make it show up.
- If you hit a streak of bad luck, the pity system guarantees certain fish after many tries, and it never takes away something better you already caught.
Built so you don’t lose money
Bait prices were calculated so each bait is the best choice on exactly the rod it’s meant for. In simulations, almost no fishing session ends with fewer coins than it started with, and fishing without bait never loses. The formulas and the numbers are in the portfolio version.
