Seasons and leaderboards

Warning

Rod and Reef hasn’t been released yet, and videos or GIFs of this system can’t be shown until it launches.

Rod and Reef has 45-day seasons. In each one you compete on four boards: fish caught, coins earned, experience, and your best streak of catches without losing a fish.

How it works

  • When a season ends, the top 50 of every board get a permanent title with their rank and the season’s number, like “#3 SEA KING (S2)”.
  • Every season gives out different titles, so you can collect them.
  • If you were offline when the season ended, you get your title the next time you join.
  • If you’re in the top 50, your rank shows up on your profile card.
  • Twenty seasons make a cycle, and each season is named by its cycle and number, like “Cycle 1 Season 2”.

Under the hood

The servers don’t coordinate with each other. Each one works out the current season from the clock, and any of them can close a season, because closing it twice gives the same result. Everything is also built to avoid using up the requests the game needs to load your data. More details in the portfolio version.
