A unicycle you can paste into any Roblox game
Standalone Unicycle is a Roblox unicycle that fits in a single model. You copy it, paste it into your game (one or twenty of them) and it just works, with no scripts to move into ServerScriptService, no remotes to create and nothing to configure.
To use it, you just touch the seat. The player gets on, the unicycle adjusts to their avatar’s height so the wheel touches the ground, and from there it’s driven with the usual controls: keyboard, phone joystick or gamepad.
How it feels
What I cared about most was that it should ride like a unicycle and not like a character walking around with a wheel stuck to them.
- There’s no sideways movement. The direction you ask for is where the wheel turns, and it only rolls where it’s pointing, so pressing
Acurves you to the left instead of sliding you sideways. - Starting takes effort. The first pedal strokes are slow and the speed builds faster and faster, like on a real one.
- Asking to go backwards brakes, and once you’ve stopped, that same direction turns you around on the spot.
- Sharp turns cost you speed, because you pedal less while the wheel isn’t pointing where you want to go.
- It speeds up going downhill and doesn’t slow you down going uphill. If you ride across a slope, you slide down sideways until you end up facing downhill.
- The pedaling animation keeps pace with the wheel, and if you ride into a wall the pedals stop turning.
What’s underneath
There’s no vehicle physics and no VehicleSeat. The unicycle is welded to the character, and what actually moves is the player’s own Humanoid, steered every frame by a small mathematical model of a wheel. That makes it very stable: it doesn’t fly off because of a physics bug, it doesn’t jitter on other players’ screens and it doesn’t send a single network message while you ride. The equations and the reasoning behind each decision are in the portfolio version of this project.
It works on PC, mobile and console, with R15 avatars of any size, including the newer ones that use AnimationConstraint. On mobile, a button to get off shows up right above the jump button.
Controls
| Action | PC | Mobile | Console |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get on | touch the seat | touch the seat | touch the seat |
| Ride and turn | WASD or arrow keys |
joystick | left stick |
| Brake | opposite direction | joystick back | stick back |
| Get off | E |
button above jump | B |
Configuration
Everything is tuned with values inside the model: top speed, acceleration, how heavy the start feels, braking, turn speed, how hard slopes push, whether you can jump, and the two animations. They’re read live, so you can change them in Studio while testing, and if you delete one the default is used and the console tells you.
There’s one thing to keep in mind when you take it to another game. Roblox only lets an animation play in games owned by the same owner, so you have to re-upload both animations with your account or group and put the new IDs in the configuration. If you forget, the unicycle shows up stuck to the character’s chest and the console tells you exactly what happened.
